The Galaxy Tab A11+ Gets Security Updates Until 2032

Samsung went two years without a new budget tablet, and the Galaxy Tab A11+ that ended the gap is, in Android Authority's words, physically the same tablet as the Tab A9+. What changed is inside: a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chip, Android 16 and a longer support promise. It sells against Lenovo's Tab One and Idea Tab and sits below Apple's 11-inch iPad.

Notebookcheck measured its screen, battery and charging on the 5G version, which shares the screen, chip and battery with the US Wi-Fi model, while Android Authority and Tech Advisor judged it in daily use.

Samsung's security patches for it run until November 2032, more than five years past the date Lenovo stops patching the US Tab One.

Quick verdict

Samsung Galaxy Tab A11+, SM-X230NZAIXAR (US, Wi-Fi, 6 GB RAM, 128 GB, Gray)
7.0/10
Editorial ratingGoodWeighted average of 4 rated sections.

For a household that wants one inexpensive tablet for comics, library books and video, the Tab A11+ is the safest budget pick, because Samsung keeps patching it into late 2032. Text looks softer than on an e-reader, and the box holds no charger.

Strengths

  • Security patches promised until November 2032
  • Dims low enough for a dark bedroom, with no PWM flicker in lab testing
  • A full day of Wi-Fi use per charge in the same lab

Weaknesses

  • No charger included
  • Softer text than on a Kindle
  • The housing flexes and creaks under a firm twist

How we reviewed it

Basis
Research-based: assessed from the manufacturer’s published specifications, documentation and the independent sources listed at the end. We have not tested this unit ourselves; any measurement quoted belongs to the cited source.
Method

The update section relies on Notebookcheck's review for Samsung's November 2032 date and the patch level of its test unit, set against Android Authority's account of the promise and the Tab One review on this site for Lenovo's date. The screen and battery sections use Notebookcheck's measurements of brightness, flicker, contrast, color coverage, runtime and charging, with the panel-type disagreement taken from Android Authority. Build, speakers and missing features come from Notebookcheck and Android Authority, and the US memory and storage pairings from Samsung's FAQ and Best Buy's listing.

Evidence

Notebookcheck tested the 5G version with lab instruments. Android Authority and Tech Advisor reviewed it in daily use. Memory, storage and box contents are Samsung's figures.

Limitations

Notebookcheck measured the European 5G model, which shares the screen, chip and battery with the US Wi-Fi model, so small differences in weight or radio behavior are possible. Nobody has published a side-by-side test of text sharpness against an e-reader. Samsung's update date is a promise about the future, and Notebookcheck's unit was already a quarter behind on patches when tested.

Security updates through November 2032

The tablet ships with Android 16 and One UI, and Samsung plans updates every three months until November 2032, according to Notebookcheck's review. Android Authority counts seven years of promised software updates and says no other maker at this price comes close.

That window is the reason to choose it over the Lenovo Tab One, whose US security updates end in March 2027. A tablet bought for a child's comics or a parent's library books tends to stay in the house for years, and the Kindle, Kobo and Libby apps all run on Android, so the useful life of the A11+ is set by how long the system underneath stays patched.

Notebookcheck's test unit was still on the October 2025 patch when the lab tested it in January 2026, and the review noted that a newer one was due.

Reading on an 11-inch, 206 ppi LCD

6.8/10Fair

The 11-inch panel shows 1920 by 1200 pixels, which works out to 206 pixels per inch. Current Kindles render text at 300 ppi, so letters on the Samsung look softer at the same size, and comics and magazines suit it better than dense novels.

In Notebookcheck's lab the screen reached 537 nits and dropped to 3.7 nits at the lowest setting, dim enough for a dark bedroom. The lab found no PWM flicker at any level, measured a contrast of 1534:1 and recorded 97.2 percent coverage of the sRGB color space. The glass is glossy, and reflections were among the review's complaints.

Android Authority calls it a TFT screen and says an IPS panel would have made the tablet an easier recommendation, while the lab lists it as IPS. For reading, the measured dimming range and the absence of flicker matter more than the label. Anyone planning hours of novels a day may still prefer an Android E Ink reader, which keeps the apps and loses the backlight.

A day of battery, and no charger in the box

The 7,040 mAh battery lasted nearly 15 hours in Notebookcheck's Wi-Fi browsing test, enough for a long day on the couch, though the lab notes that other tablets at this price carry larger batteries. The tablet charges at up to 25 W, and a full charge from empty took well over two hours in the lab's test.

Samsung's FAQ lists the contents as a quick start guide, an ejection pin for the SIM and microSD tray, and a USB-C cable. There is no power adapter, so the 25 W figure depends on a charger you already own or buy separately.

The Tab A9+ body, with louder speakers than most

Notebookcheck found the housing can be twisted a little by hand and creaks, though it judged the tablet well made overall. It weighed 482 grams on the lab's scale. Unlocking is by face through the front camera, since there is no fingerprint sensor, and there is no NFC. Android Authority adds that it does not support the S Pen, so handwritten notes in books need a different tablet.

Four speakers reached 84 to 89 dB in the same lab. That fills a medium-sized room, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack sits alongside for a quieter evening. A microSD slot takes cards up to 2 TB, which suits a large comics or audiobook library, and the US 128 GB model pairs its storage with 6 GB of memory, according to Samsung and Best Buy. The lab also measured unstable Wi-Fi data rates and counted few Bluetooth audio codecs. The USB-C port runs at USB 2.0 speed.

Final verdict

Score breakdown

Scores run from 1.0 to 10.0: 9+ exceptional, 8–8.9 excellent, 7–7.9 good, 6–6.9 fair, 5–5.9 mediocre, below 5 poor. The overall score is the weighted average of the rated sections. Unrated sections do not count.

Pros

  • Security patches promised until November 2032
  • Dims low enough for a dark bedroom, with no PWM flicker in lab testing
  • A full day of Wi-Fi use per charge in the same lab
  • microSD slot for a comics or audiobook library
  • Loud quad speakers and a headphone jack

Cons

  • No charger included
  • Softer text than on a Kindle
  • The housing flexes and creaks under a firm twist
  • There is no S Pen support for handwritten notes in books, and no fingerprint reader for quick unlocks

Conclusion

Samsung reused the Tab A9+ shell, added a faster chip and attached a support promise that runs into late 2032. Lab measurements show a screen that dims without flicker, a full day of battery and loud speakers, and the compromises are the soft text, a flexing housing and the charger you have to supply.

For anyone who already owns a Tab A9+, the only gains are the faster chip and the longer support.

Andreea-Viviana Jitaru’s take

The Tab A11+ is two-year-old hardware with a faster chip and a support window that Android Authority says no rival at its price matches. For the tablet that ends up as a household's comics and library screen, I would take that window over a sharper panel.

Best for
  • Comics and magazines in color
  • A family tablet expected to stay in use for five years or more
  • Library borrowers who switch between Libby, Kindle and a video app in the same evening
Consider an alternative if
  • You read novels every night, where an E Ink screen shows sharper text and works in sunlight
  • You want handwritten notes and annotation, which need pen support

Andreea edits the written side of the site: the editor's note on each product page, the category buying guides and the blog. Her brief is to say what a specification table cannot: where a product is good, where it quietly compromises, and who should walk past it. A note that reads like marketing copy, or that praises a product without naming a drawback, does not go live.

This is a research-based assessment: the reviewer compiled it from published specifications, documentation and independent measurements rather than from testing the unit.
