The basic Kindle is Amazon's entry-level e-reader, and the 2024 release is the one on sale today. Amazon calls it the Kindle (11th Generation) 2024 Release, not a 12th generation, because it refreshes the 2022 design with a higher-contrast screen, a brighter front light, faster page turns and a new Matcha color (Amazon announcement). It was number 2 in Amazon's US Best Sellers list for e-book readers when we checked on 11 September 2026, and Tom's Guide and TechRadar both revised their e-reader guides in August 2026.
This is a research-based assessment. Nobody on our team has used this unit. We built it from Amazon's listing, user guide, help pages and announcement, and from reviews by TechRadar, Tom's Guide and The eBook Reader, including their informal battery tests. The question for 2026 is whether the smallest Kindle is still worth buying after Amazon's August price rise.
