BOOX Go 6 (Gen II): Specs, Features, Pros & Cons

BOOX still sells the original Go 6, and its store lists the Gen II beside it. Most of the specs match. Both have a 6-inch, 300 ppi monochrome screen, an octa-core processor and a battery of the same size. The Gen II has 3 GB of RAM where the original has 2 GB. It also works with a stylus, and it weighs about 14 g more.

On BOOX's page the pen is a pocket jotter, for lists and quick notes on a commute, plus underlining and margin notes while reading. The built-in reader adds search and an AI assistant you can ask questions. The Gen II takes only the InkSense Plus, the version with a side button. A stylus bought for another BOOX model may not work with it.

BOOX promises firmware updates for more than three years after a model's launch. The original Go 6 launched in August 2024, so its window closes first, in August 2027 at the earliest. The Gen II went on sale in June 2026 and is covered to at least mid-2029.

Like the other Go models, it has the Google Play Store and a microSD slot, with a single power button and no page-turn keys. The front light runs from cool white to a warm tone for night reading, and BOOX's own reader opens EPUB, PDF, MOBI and comic archives without extra apps. The body is just under 6 inches tall and comes in four colors, from a near-black Plum to a pale yellow Custard.

Editor’s note

The extra gigabyte of RAM gets less attention than the pen. On a reader that runs Play Store apps, memory decides how many of them stay loaded at once. On paper, the original Go 6 has little room to spare once a library app, a store app and a browser are open together. The Go 7 carries 4 GB for the same kind of use.

The screen's shape gives a writing area of about 3.6 by 4.8 inches, a little shorter than a pocket notebook page. That fits a shopping list or a few lines beside a passage. The pen charges over USB-C, so it is one more battery to keep topped up. Handwritten notes can sync to BOOX's cloud, which gives every account 10 GB free. Working through a PDF with a pen is cramped here, and the 10.3-inch BOOX Note Air6 C suits that job better.

Audio still needs Bluetooth headphones or a USB-C adapter, because there is a microphone but no speaker. There is no auto-rotation either. The Go 7 has it, but here a wide PDF page has to be turned sideways by hand. At 160 g, the Gen II weighs about the same as the 2024 Kindle and less than the Kobo Clara BW, and it is thinner than both. BOOX publishes no water-resistance rating for it, though. Kobo rates the Clara BW as waterproof, which counts for a reader that goes to the beach or the bath.

I'd pay the difference over the original Go 6 for the pen first. Without it, the upgrade comes down to the extra memory and the longer update promise.

The bottom line

The BOOX Go 6 (Gen II) earns a VS Score of 42, below the median of the 8 Android e-readers it is measured against (a score of 50 is level with that median).

Who it’s for
Someone who wants a pocket-sized Android reader with the Play Store, also writes short lists or margin notes, and will buy the InkSense Plus.
Who should look elsewhere
Anyone who wants physical page-turn buttons, or a reader tied to one bookstore that works without any Android setup.
The trade-off that matters
The standard box has no stylus, so the feature you pay extra for still needs the InkSense Plus bought on top.
The main alternative
BOOX Go 6: the same screen, processor and battery without stylus support, for less money.
