The $34.99 Kindle Click Brings Page-Turn Buttons to Kindles Made From 2024 On

The $34.99 Kindle Click Brings Page-Turn Buttons to Kindles Made From 2024 On

On a treadmill, or with the Kindle propped on a tray table, reaching over to tap the glass is the awkward part of reading. Amazon’s answer, announced on October 1, 2026, is the Kindle Click: a $34.99 Bluetooth remote with two buttons, one for the next page and one for the last. Amazon says it works with all of its new Kindles and with “any Kindle model from 2024 or later”. Owners of anything older are left out, and one older model shares a name with a newer one.

Three ways to get buttons on a Kindle

The Click is the cheap route. It sits in your hand or hangs from an optional wrist strap, white with gray buttons, and talks to the Kindle over Bluetooth, the same radio a Kindle already uses for headphones.

The second route is the $79.99 Page-Turn Cover, a magnetic cover with physical buttons on it. It connects through the new pogo pins, small metal contacts on the reader, so it fits only the two models that have them: the Paperwhite Signature Edition and the Colorsoft Signature Edition. The standard Paperwhite and Colorsoft cannot take it.

The third route is a reader with buttons built into the body, which no Kindle in the new range has and Kobo still makes.

Where a remote helps

Amazon pitches the Click for three places: under the covers, on a treadmill and on a tray table during a flight. In each one the Kindle sits out of easy reach, or your hand would rather stay under the duvet.

It also helps anyone who finds a small touch target hard to hit, whether from a stiff hand or a tremor. Two large buttons ask less of a finger than a tap on the right third of a screen. Amazon does not market it that way, and it has not said whether the Click works at the same time as VoiceView, the Kindle’s screen reader, which needs Bluetooth headphones.

Which Kindles the Click works with

Amazon defines compatibility by year. That is clear for the 12th-generation Paperwhite and the first Colorsoft, both from fall 2024, for the 2024 Kindle Scribe and for the new 2026 range. It is less clear for the basic Kindle.

The 2024 basic model’s full name is Kindle (11th Generation) 2024 Release. The 2022 basic Kindle is also an 11th-generation Kindle, with the same shape. By Amazon’s own rule the 2022 model is out, but the generation number alone will not tell you which one you have. The order date will. The 2024 release went on sale in October 2024, so a basic Kindle bought before then is the older one.

The same rule leaves out the 2021 Paperwhite, the 2022 Kindle Scribe and every Oasis. Amazon has not said whether a firmware update could bring any of them in.

Decision chart showing which Kindle models work with the Kindle Click and the Page-Turn Cover, with the total cost of each route to physical page-turn buttons

What buttons cost on each route

The Click adds the least, so it changes the arithmetic most on the cheaper readers. The cover is where the totals climb.

Route to page-turn buttonsTotal
New basic Kindle plus Click$184.98
Paperwhite (2026) plus Click$234.98
Paperwhite Signature Edition plus Page-Turn Cover$329.98
Colorsoft Signature Edition plus Page-Turn Cover$399.98
Kobo Libra Colour, buttons built in$259.99

The Kobo Libra Colour is the comparison that stings. It has two page-turn buttons in an asymmetric grip, color, 32 GB and a 7-inch screen for $259.99. Getting buttons that stay attached to a 32 GB Paperwhite costs $69.99 more, and the Colorsoft route costs $139.99 more.

The standard Colorsoft with a Click comes to $324.98, which is more than the Kobo with color and buttons already in it. A Paperwhite with the Click comes in under the Kobo, but the buttons sit in your other hand. For reading in bed or on an exercise bike that is fine. For one-handed reading on a train, the buttons need to be on the reader.

What Amazon has not said

Amazon’s announcement is short on the Click itself. It does not give:

  • battery life, or how the Click charges
  • range, or whether it pairs with more than one Kindle
  • whether it works with the Kindle app on a phone or tablet
  • release dates for the Page-Turn Cover and the Charging Dock

The price itself is in line with the field. TechCrunch sets the Click against Kobo’s and BOOX’s own remotes, both at $29.99.

Before you order

Check the year your Kindle went on sale, not its generation number. If it is a 2024 model or newer, the Click is the cheapest way to add buttons, and $34.99 is little to risk on a habit you may or may not keep. If your Kindle predates 2024 and you want buttons, put the price of a new Kindle and a Click side by side with a Kobo Libra Colour before deciding which reader comes next.
